Digital Citizenship online course
Just as we teach children how to interact in the world around them, we must show them how to act in the online world. And as classroom technology use goes up, we will find this need go up as well. Good digital citizenship is a very important part of education today.
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) believes in giving learners power in a digital world, and their standards focus on managing digital identities, positive online behavior, and keeping personal data safe. We created this Digital Citizenship online course to support ISTE Standards and to show ways to become good global digital citizens.
This course breaks Digital Citizenship down into five smaller “Be” statements:
- Be online: How does online time affect health and wellness?
- Be public: Learn to build and leave a positive digital footprint.
- Be personal: Connect online with others in a safe way.
- Be respectful: Follow copyright rules and pick out ownership of digital content.
- Be perceptive: Evaluate sources using digital literacy strategies and understand multiple views.

Stop, Think, Connect
These “Be” statements help all of us learn to get along. They make us rethink age-old classroom approaches, and they help learners think about others first when they are online. You will also find in this course Microsoft tools that help everyone become good digital citizens. You will learn about the Reflect app inside Teams, OneNote for citations, Bing safe searches and much more!
